Welcome to the Barnton Village Website, which is maintained and hosted by Barnton Parish Council. Barnton is a pleasant, large village located within the unitary authority of Cheshire West and Chester.  The village lies to the north of both the Trent-Mersey canal (part of the famous Cheshire Ring) and the River Weaver, and around 2 miles to the north-west of the town of Northwich. The village has a long, rural history, but grew rapidly in the 1800s thanks to the success of the Brunner Mond company (who occupied a large site in neighbouring Winnington) and who built hundreds of houses for their workers here. The village now boasts an excellent range of local amenities and is within easy reach of the A49, M56 and M6 making it popular with commuters to Liverpool, Manchester and Chester. It is surrounded by wonderful Cheshire countryside and enjoys an enviable location on some of Cheshire’s most attractive inland waterways.

Mrs Carol Ashdown, Orchard Cottage, 8 Oakwood Lane, Barnton
I  grew up on a farm in Tywyn, near Aberdyfi, Mid Wales. In '76 I began
training as a State Registered Nurse at The London Hospital in the East
End of London, after qualifying I worked at Mile End Hospital as a Staff
Nurse until moving to Liverpool in 1980. I trained as a midwife at Mill
Road Hospital then moved to Arrowe Park Hospital on the Wirral, where
I worked nights for over twenty years.
In '87 I moved to Barnton, married Geoff, a locksmith / safe engineer,
and our son and daughter were born. I did a Certificate in Counselling
course at Mid Cheshire College, then completed a Diploma in Midwifery
Studies at Chester College followed by Specialist Practitioner-Health
Visiting /B.Sc.(Hons) Applied and Community Health, at NEWI ,Wrexham. Since 2003 I have been a Health Visitor in Halton.
Since '89 I have also worked for the National Trust as a spinner-weaver/historical interpreter and been a committee member of the Talyllyn Railway Preservation Society (N.W.Area) since1980, which I also chaired for seven years. I was a member of Vale Royal Greenpeace Group and also do voluntary wardening for the Youth Hostel Association. I take an active and enjoyable part in Little Leigh W.I. as a committee member, and have a wide range of interests including travelling in the British Isles, photography, history, wildlife, antiques and crafts.  We are very much animal lovers, owning cats and a dog, hens, geese and, until recently, a flock of Jacob sheep. I also share my husband's interests in traction engines, industrial archaeology and hillwalking.
I have been a member of Barnton Parish Council since (will have to ask Roy!) and enjoy working with my fellow Councillors for the benefit of the village  that we all care about.
