Youth Club Update

We recently received two grants, £3500 from Barclays Wealth and £500 from Weaver Vale Housing Trust to take the children on an activity weekend. Unfortunately our planned trip to Colomendy Camp in May has been postponed due to the age restrictions on most of their activities and we felt that the younger children just wouldn’t get enough out of the trip, so we are going back to PGL at Borreaton Park on the weekend of 5-7 September 2008.

Preparations are underway for the Northwich Carnival when the MAD Youth Club will be entering a float based on The Rain Forest.

Recently PCSO Diana Wiggins visited the Youth Club and brought pizzas for all the children.

We have close links with the community policeman and the VRBC outreach workers. We try to work together by helping the children and encouraging them to come to us if they have any problems of any kind. We are also a close link for the residents of the village. We are always willing to try and help although we do all work full time and do this work on a voluntary basis. We are always willing to take on new volunteers. The more helpers we have means the more we can do with the kids. If you fancy a new challenge you are always welcome, even if you can't manage every week.
Barnton Youth Club has successfully obtained its level 1 validation of the Cheshire Council for Voluntary Youth Service Scheme. This is an approved certificate that is sponsored by Connexions, Youth Federation & Cheshire County Council. It now means that we are an accredited youth club and will be succesfully recognised by the above groups. Hopefully we will be able to aquire more funding and help via Cheshire County Council. Volunteers and children will be invited to attend a formal presentation later on in the year.
We are now running from the new Memorial Hall on the football field.
Some of the older children are signing up to join the Millenium Volunteers. This is where people "clock up" their hours doing voluntary work to gain a certificate. This can also be used on people's CVs and is recognised by businesses.
We have also been asked to help with the Governments new Green paper "Youth Matters". The government is in the process of asking the youths of today to help with questionaires that will hopefully help them change the law where youths are concerned.
