NEWS FROM NURSERY ROAD REC
Well, we're almost there, we are just making a final push with Grant applications and by the time you read this, we should have the funds that we need to complete Phase 2 of the development of the Rec.
The plans for the playground are on display in the Library on Townfield Lane and show all the different types of equipment we plan to have - these include two large 'Multi-units' - one for Toddlers and one for Juniors, a 'Dish Roundabout and 'Nest Swing' - these are 'Inclusive' items that can be used by disabled and able-bodied children - there is also a Pole Spin, Springie Ladybird and See-saw, a Disc Roundabout, new Swings for both age groups and a Space Net.
We had hoped to be able to level the 2 five-a-side football pitches last year but because the area is so uneven, we plan to use some of the topsoil from the playground area to level the ground before we re-seed and install the goal posts. We are also going to see if we can keep an area free for wickets to be set up for games of cricket.
With the help of Vale Royal Borough Council we will be planting lots more trees and shrubs.
Once we have secured the funds we need, we have to go through a tendering process with Groundwork, our project managers, and appoint a contractor. This process can take several weeks to complete; however we are confident that work will start soon.
One point I would like to make is that some owners are still taking their dogs into the fenced area and ignoring the 'No Dogs Allowed' signs. One of the high priorities for the village children when we asked what they wanted on the Rec. was "a grass football pitch with no dog mess" The best way of achieving this is
by providing space for owners to walk and have no dogs at all on the play area, which is what we have done. Can we ask therefore that everyone abides by the rules and keeps their dogs out of the fenced area, giving our children a safe and clean place to play.
